William Loran Guy, 92, Scottsville, died on March 30, 2025 at his home surrounded by family. Born at home on December 14, 1932, Loran was the son of Charlie Ester Sr. and Lottie Gilmore Guy. He was a graduate of Allen County High School where he served as manager for the basketball team. During his high school years and after graduation, Loran worked on his parents' farm and drove a bulldozer for his brother CE. He met his wife Imogene while dozing at her father's farm, and the rest was history! They married in Haysville, Tennessee, on June 5, 1953. After two years of active duty with the US Army at Ft. Knox, Loran and Imogene settled in down the road from his parents and welcomed four daughters to their home.
As a child, Loran met Jesus and gave Him his life. Loran was a life-long member of Trammel Fork Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, clerk, and Sunday School teacher for many years. Loran was civic-minded and served on the Allen County Board of Education for 12 years; earned the 1967 Kentucky Farm Bureau Young Farmers Association Rural Leadership Award; was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel in 1969; listed in Outstanding Young Men of America in 1969; and in 2023 he proudly accepted the designation for the Guy Family Farm as the first Legacy Farm recognized in Allen County.
Loran had a gentle demeanor, mischievous smile, and infectious laugh. He loved interacting with people of all ages and occupations and never met a stranger. Loran loved farming and tending his cattle. Some of his favorite times were sitting on the deck with Imogene and looking out at the land. We are grateful for his work ethic, leadership, faith, and love. For this one farmer, the worries are over.
Loran is survived by Imogene, his wife of 71 years, children Suzanne (Charles) Alexander of Hickman; Holly (Dennis) Tirjan of Lafayette, TN; Janet (Owen) Cropper of Lexington; and Jennifer (Rocky) Bowers of Lexington; grandchildren Tim (Carrie) Alexander, Anna Murray, Margo Stoner, Carrie (Philip) Roe, Andrew Cropper, Chelsea Lyle, Hunter Morgan Lyle, and Thomas Bowers; great-grandchildren Christopher (Holly) Alexander, Jenna Pedigo, Coral Murray, Iris Murray, Athena Stoner, Olivia Roe, Hudson Roe, and Ella Cropper; great-great-grandchildren Grayson Pedigo and Caroline Alexander; sisters-in-law Shirley White and Marie Glass, and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Loran was preceded in death by his three brothers, CE Jr, Larkin, and Sammie.
Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Goad Funeral Home and 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Trammel Fork Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Trammel Fork Missionary Baptist with burial to follow in the Trammel Fork Cemetery.
