Virgil A. Martin, 85, of Scottsville, KY passed away Friday, October 8, 2021 at his residence. The Etoile, KY native was a farmer, retired heavy equipment operator for the Kentucky State Highway Department, member of Dover Missionary Baptist Church where he served as deacon for over 21 years, Kentucky Colonel, volunteer coach for the Allen County Special Olympics, former member of the Executive Council of the Allen County Democrat Party, father of the family of the year in 2004 at the Jaycees Allen County Fair, chosen in the top 10 of the Kentucky Heavy Equipment Operators and an avid pool player. He was a son of the late Tom Martin and Daisy Lavanna Key Martin and husband of the late Annabell Marie Wilson Martin.
He is survived by 4 daughters: Vickie Warren Johnson and husband, Paul; Pat Witcher and husband, Louie; Lisa Meador and husband, Steve, and Tina Plough and husband, Brian, all of Scottsville, KY;
1 brother: Billy Martin (Barbara), Scottsville, KY;
1 sister: Lizzie Davis, Scottsville, KY;
8 grandchildren: Christina Rodecker (Justin), Daniel Warren, Bradley Witcher (Kelly), DeAna Ledoux (Josh), Stephanie Lutterman (Nathan), Leslie Rossetter (Alan), Brendan Plough (Aubrey) and Kaitlyn Hogue (Isaac);
17 great grandchildren: John Holman (Brook), Payton Holman, Zeke Holman, Gael Garcia, Bella Garcia, Ibby Garcia, Andrew Witcher, Bailee Fowler, Abby Ledoux, Remi Ledoux, Morgan Shivers (Dale), Seth Lutterman, Parker Rossetter, Anna Rossetter, Wyatt Thomas Ploughe, Keifer Ransom and Kashlin Ransom;
1 sister-in-law, 5 brothers-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother: James Martin.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday at Goad Funeral Home with Bro. Charlie Patterson officiating and entombment in Allen County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday and after 7:00 a.m. Monday until funeral time at Goad Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Southern Kentucky or Dover Missionary Baptist Church. Donations may be made at Goad Funeral Home.
