Thomas Sledge Obituary

Thomas Nolan "Tommy" Sledge, 72, Scottsville, KY passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Hospice House in Bowling Green, KY.  Tommy was born in Glasgow, KY to the late Johncy Nolan Sledge and Elva Lorene Tabor Sledge.  Tommy was second from the youngest of seven children.

He grew up riding his Stingray bicycle all over Allen County.  As a youth he enjoyed fishing, hunting squirrels and hanging out with his friends.  He professed faith in Christ late in life.  In later years, he enjoyed traveling with his siblings to places like Sledge, MS; San Antonio, TX; Little Rock, AK; Florida and Hawaii.  Mary and Tommy have been married 50 plus years.  Tommy was a loving husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather, as well as loving brother.  He always found fun and special activities for his family to enjoy.  Being an avid collector, he enjoyed many vintage items.  No matter how rusty they may have been, he could "tinker" and shine them up like new.  He loved flea markets and yard sales. Tommy was also a passionate lover of motorcycles (especially Harleys).  While airing his bicycle tire up at a gas station at 10 years old, he saw his first motorcycle and became enthralled.  He took as much pride working on his bicycle as he did his Harley in later years.  After graduating from Scottsville High School in 1969, Tommy worked construction jobs.  In 1974, he attended Manpower Welding School in Bowling Green, KY.  Tommy also became certified as a QA/QC Nuclear Welding Inspector in 1977 from (TAT) Training and Technology School in Oak Ridge, TN.  He worked for TVA, Westinghouse and General Electric from 1978 to 2021.  His career with the nuclear industry led him all over the United States and to numerous countries including Mexico, Korea, Spain, Russia and Sweden.

He is survived by his wife:  Mary Pearson Sledge, Scottsville, KY;

1 son:  Lucas Nolan Sledge and wife, Amy, Danville, KY;

1 daughter:  Joncie Sledge Emery and husband, Josh, Scottsville, KY;

4 sisters:  Joyce Mansfield, North Little Rock, AR, Mary Ann Conner and husband, Oscar Lee, Scottsville, KY, Nanci Meador, Louisvillle, KY and Reva Blankenship, Franklin, KY;

1 sister-in-law:  Jean Yates Sledge, San Antonio, TX;

2 grandchildren:  Melia Emery and Will Sledge;
