Sam J. Stovall, 90, of Scottsville, KY passed away Monday at the Medical Center at Scottsville. The Scottsville, KY native was a carpenter of houses, cabinets, furniture and concrete. After he was diagnosed with Parkinson's, he enjoyed putting lots of puzzles together. He was a member of Mt. Union General Baptist Church, Scottsville-Allen County Rescue Squad, where he was a past training officer, Halfway Lodge #852 F & AM, Halfway Order of Eastern Star #267, Scottish Rite Club in Louisville and Scottsville, where he served as secretary and treasurer for the local club and Kosair Shrine Club. He was a son of the late Paul Stovall and Vera M. Pearson Stovall.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years: Barbara Brown Stovall, Scottsville, KY;
2 sons: Randy Stovall and wife, Rita and Anthony Stovall and wife, Fran, all of Scottsville, KY;
1 brother: Jack Stovall, N.C.;
1 sister: Ruby Jean Douglas, Mooresville, N.C.;
5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren: Randa Bush and husband, James and their children: Ryleigh, David and an unborn grandson, John; Raissa Cecil and husband, Joel and their children: Raya and Beckham; Anthony Stovall, Jr. and wife, Mandy and their children: Anthony, III and Christopher; Christina Stovall and partner, Ryan Miller and her children: Gabriel and Samuel Ben; Vanessa May and husband, Jed and their children: Joshua, Tabitha and Isabella.
Several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson: James Robert “Robbie” Stovall; 5 brothers: Carl, Albert, Dee, Pete and John Stovall; 1 sister: Edye Short; and his first wife and mother of his children: Wanda Smith Stovall.
Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Goad Funeral Home with Rev. Todd O'Hair and Rev. James Bush officiating and burial in Mt. Union Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 7:00 A.M. Thursday until funeral time at Goad Funeral Home. Halfway Lodge #852 F & AM will hold masonic rites at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Goad Funeral Home.
