Rodney Burgess Obituary

Rodney Lawrence Burgess, 85, of Austin KY passed away Monday, June 9, 2025 at the Medical Center at Scottsville.  He was born to the late Hershel Edward and Thelma Francis Burgess in the Bewleytown Community near Fountain Run, KY.  The Barren County native was a retired stock clerk, produce manager and store manager of Houchens in Glasgow, Lafayette and Scottsville.  He also spent many years as a store manager with Winn Dixie in Bowling Green, Louisville, Owensboro and Radcliff.  He proudly served his country as Staff Sergeant in the Kentucky Army National Guard 623rd in Glasgow, KY.  Following retirement from public work, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of farming and finding solitude in working the land.  He was a faithful member and deacon of Pleasant Home Missionary Baptist Church.  His love for gospel music filled his days as church song leader and singer with The Clifton Trio and The Jubilee Singers.  However, he enjoyed nothing more than harmonizing with his wife, daughter and grandchildren anytime he had a chance.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years:  Judy Flowers Burgess, Austin, KY;

1 daughter:  Cheri Napier and husband, Tim, Austin, KY;

2 grandchildren:  Phillip Napier and wife, Caressa, and Chelsea Tabor and husband, Blandon;

4 great grandchildren:  Eleanor, William, Emily and Elizabeth;

2 brothers:  Dennis Burgess and wife, Sharon, and Mike Burgess and wife, Sherrie, all of Lucas, KY;

3 sisters-in-law:  Sandra Meador and husband, Gordon, Scottsville, KY; Pam Sarver, Bowling Green, KY and Faye West and husband, Feral, Pine Bluff, AR;

Several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2025 at Goad Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Michael Stinson, Bro. Ricky Huff, Bro. Jeremy England and Bro.
