Rachel Lawrence Burnette

Rachel Lawrence Burnette, 90, of Scottsville, KY passed away surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born December 6, 1935, in Indianapolis, IN to Noel R. Lawrence and Hennie Perry Lawrence.  Rachel grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Calvary Christian Academy.  On November 7, 1953, at the age of 17, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Burnette, in Indianapolis.  Together they built a beautiful life and shared nearly 69 years of marriage until Kenneth's passing on September 25, 2022.  Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Kenneth; her son, David; her siblings:  Pete Moore and wife, Marie; Elizabeth Barrick and husband, Ford, and Maxine Byrum and husband, Dick. 

She is survived by a daughter:  Shelly Phillips and husband, Billy, Scottsville, KY; 

Her son:  Doug Burnette and wife, Tiffany, Goodlettsville, TN; 

4 grandchildren:  Trent Phillips and wife, Victoria; Brittany Phillips, Kendyl Wingate and husband, Jordan, and Dawson Burnette; 

3 great grandchildren:  Carsten Carter, Ava Smith and Tatum Wingate.

She is also survived by nieces and nephews including:  Lavece Smith, Penny Steely and Joe Byrum, along with many other family members and friends who loved her dearly. 

Rachel lived a life marked by faith, music, hospitality and love.  She loved playing the organ and singing, and she was also gifted with the accordion and upright bass.  She played in a mixed quartet, and she and Kenneth traveled all across the United States singing for the Lord.  Her music was more than a talent; it was a ministry, and she used it faithfully to bless others.  She was a wonderful homemaker and superb cook and baker, and she did everything with exceptional taste.  She had a gift for making a house feel like home and loved remodeling and creating beautiful spaces.  She cooked three meals a day for her family and welcomed many, many people into her home with warmth, kindness and grace. Above all, Rachel loved the Lord and loved her family.  She raised three wonderful children and was deeply involved in the lives of her grandchildren.  She was always the first to lend a hand, and she had a tender heart for others, especially the elderly.  She loved reading her Bible and talking about the things of the Lord.  Her faith was evident not only in the songs she sang but in the way she lived.  Rachel leaves behind a legacy of love, faithfulness, service, music and devotion to family.  She will be deeply missed, but her life and testimony will continue to bless all who knew and loved her. 

Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Abounding Grace with Bro. Elvis Farley officiating and burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 1:00 p.m. Saturday until funeral time at Abounding Grace.
