Dorthy Jewell Pearson, 83, of Scottsville, KY passed away peacefully Thursday, November 20, 2025 at the Medical Center at Bowling Green. She was born on March 9, 1942 in Allen County at the County Farm to the late Ernest Greaton Pearson and Bertha Mae Mays Pearson. Dorthy graduated from Allen County High School in 1960. In 1963, she graduated from Western Kentucky State College with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics. Dorthy also received her Elementary Education Certification in 1973 from Western Kentucky University. She received a master's degree in 1979 and a Rank I in Teachers Education in 1984. She taught for 31 years in the Allen County School System, teaching science and home economics at Allen County High and Franklin Simpson High School. She primarily taught the third and fourth grades at Scottsville Elementary, Allen County Elementary, and Allen County Primary Center. She retired from the Allen County Primary Center in 2000. She was a member of the Allen County Retired Teachers Association, a former member of the Buck Creek Homemakers, and a member of the Patrick Gillmore Chapter of the DAR. She was saved at an early age and joined Pleasant Hill Methodist Church and later moved her membership to Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, active in youth programs, and vacation bible school. After moving to Bowling Green, she attended Living Hope Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Stephen Jones and wife Sharon of Scottsville; daughter-in-law Karen Jones Sprague and husband Andy of Barry, IL; as well as three sisters: Malinda Stinson (Ronnie), Mary Sledge, Ramona Arterburn (Mark) of Scottsville, KY; two sisters-inlaw: Faye Pearson of Scottsville, KY and Brenda Pearson of Louisville, KY; four grandchildren: Seth and Grace Jones; Karrigan Donovan (Ben), and Collin Jones. A host of nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Cliff Jones; three brothers: Michael, Willard, and Kenneth Pearson; and brother-in-law Tommy Sledge. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church with Bro. Chuck Pruitt officiating and burial to follow in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Scottsville. Visitation will be at Goad Funeral Home from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday. Visitation will then be at 12:30 p.m. until funeral time at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church.
