David Dinwiddie Obituary

David Ross Dinwiddie, age 77, of Scottsville, KY passed away Monday, November 3, 2025, at Cal Turner Extended Care in Scottsville.  He was born in Franklin, KY on December 9, 1947 the fifth child of Ross and Beulah Weir Dinwiddie. 

His survivors include his wife:  Julie Long Dinwiddie, Scottsville, KY; 

2 sons:  Chris Dinwiddie and wife, Talluah, and Sean Dinwiddie and wife, Nicole, all of Franklin, KY; 

1 sister:  Judy Freeman and husband, Jackie, Franklin, KY; 

1 brother:  Jerry Dinwiddie, Bowling Green, KY; 

2 nieces:  Jill Gregory and Jan Hayes and their families; 

His father-in-law:  Tommy Long, Scottsville, KY and 

David was lovingly called "DD" by his grandchildren:  Zavier (Destani) Dinwiddie; Addie (Conner) Davenport; Addisen, Asa and Aubree Dinwiddie; 

1 great granddaughter:  Ellie Dinwiddie. 

He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Dinwiddie; a sister, Dot Mullinax and his mother-in-law:  Nancy Bulock Long. 

David was a 1965 graduate of Franklin Simpson High School and attended Western Kentucky University.  He proudly served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War.  He was a member of White Plains Baptist Church where he served as deacon and past church administrator.  David traveled with KY Baptist Missions and served on a medical team in Haiti.  

David had a varied and distinguished career in the medical field serving as an EMT and Paramedic in Allen, Monroe, Simpson and Warren Counties.  He was a Kentucky State EMS advisor and Director of Monroe County EMS and Owensboro Yellow Cab Medical.  He was an instructor of Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support and a Pediatric Advanced Life Support trainer for the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville.  He co-authored the New Regulations for KY PALS--Pediatric Advanced Life Support.  He was certified in Critical Care Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic from the University of Maryland and lectured in Pediatric Education for Pre-hospital Providers. 

Among the extremely creative endeavors David delighted in was designing floral works in the two flower shops he co-owned, painting and marketing artistic prints, landscaping his personal gardens and building spectacular parade floats from White Plains Baptist Church.  

He supported his Scottsville and Allen County community and region by serving as Executive Director of the Housing Authority of Scottsville; member of the Scottsville City Council; SAC Chamber of Commerce Board member; Camp manager of Barefoot Republic; Board member of Allen County ASAP Board (Agency for Substance Abuse Policy); Board of Big Brothers and Big Sisters and United Way Board.  David was instrumental in the development and building of Briarwood Shores Senior Living facility and the War Memorial Apartments.  He was a participant in the University of Kentucky Entrepreneurial Program. 

David's family gives a special thank you to the staff at Cal Turner Extended Care and Hospice of Southern Kentucky. 

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2025 at White Plains Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Phillip Rogers, Bro. Gary Pierce and Bro. Cooper Guy officiating and private graveside service with military honor by Glasgow DAV Chapter 20 at Allen County Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 9:00 a.m. Thursday until funeral time at White Plains Baptist Church Chapel.  Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to White Plains Baptist Church--"Tommy Long Youth Fund" or Hospice of Southern Kentucky.
