Marla Jean Foster Dyer, 64, of Lexington, Ky died at 7:20 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky. Born in Adolphus, Ky, she was a 1963 graduate of Scottsville High School, received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Kentucky in May, 1967, and Masters in Community Health Nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, In in 1986. She taught in the School of Nursing at UK, worked as an RN at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. She married Paul Dyer at White Plains Free Methodist Church, where she was a member, on June 3, 1967. Jean and Paul spent most of their adult lives (1973-1995) working as missionaries in the Congo (Zaire), Africa. She served there as a community health nurse helping to manage a rural dispensary and nursing school. She was a daughter of the late John Foster and Virginia Scranton Foster.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years: Paul Dean Dyer, Lexington, Ky;
2 sons: Phillip Gerald Dyer, Uganda; Jason Paul Dyer and wife, Rebecca, Cincinnati, Oh;
1 daughter: Nicole Monique (Dyer) Wilton and husband, Bruce, Calgary, Alberta, Canada;
3 brothers: Philip Foster and wife, Kay, Danville, Ky; Stanley Foster and Steven Foster, both of Scottsville, Ky;
7 grandchildren: Ariana and Aidan (Gerry's); Natalie, Bishop and Katrina (Niki's); Ethan and Caleb (Jason's).
Funeral services for Marla Jean Foster Dyer will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2010 at New Life Fellowship Church (formerly White Plains Free Methodist Church) with Rev. Al Buckta and Rev. David Dyer officiating and burial in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and 10:a.m. until funeral time Saturday at New Life Fellowship Church. Goad Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial services in the Berea/Lexington area will be held at a later date.
